Can You See Who Views Your TikTok Videos?
Updated · Tikvue Guides
Short answer
Can you see who views your TikToks?
Only a small slice of them. Every video shows a public view count, and creators get detailed analytics, but TikTok doesn't hand you a complete list of the accounts behind those numbers. What you can see depends on three different features, and they work very differently:
- View counts and analytics show how many people watched and broad patterns (where they came from, rough demographics), never names.
- Post view history is an opt-in setting that shows some individual accounts that watched your recent posts, with strict limits.
- Story viewers are fully visible. Anyone logged in who watches your story appears in the list. See how story viewer lists work.
What is post view history on TikTok?
Post view history is an opt-in setting that shows some individual accounts that watched your recent posts. It's TikTok's closest thing to a "who viewed my video" list. According to TikTok's help center, at the time of writing it shows views from:
- people who follow you, have post view history turned on, and viewed your post;
- people who don't follow you but liked or commented on the post, whether or not they have the setting on;
- posts you published within the last 7 days.
There are also eligibility limits. Only accounts belonging to people 16 or older with fewer than 5,000 followers get the feature. Once a post is older than 7 days, its viewer list is no longer available, and popular accounts can't use the feature at all.
The setting is reciprocal. If you turn it on, people you follow who also have it on can see that you viewed their posts. If you turn it off, you can't see who viewed yours, and your passive views stop showing up for others. One catch: even with it off, your likes and comments still count as views that the creator can see.
How to turn post view history on or off
Go to Profile → Menu ☰ → Settings and privacy → Privacy → Post views and switch the setting. The steps are the same on iPhone and Android:
- Open the TikTok app and tap Profile at the bottom.
- Tap the Menu ☰ button at the top, then select Settings and privacy.
- Tap Privacy, then select Post views.
- Switch Post view history on or off.
Menu labels can shift slightly between app versions and regions. If you don't see Post views under Privacy, your account may not be eligible (for example, if you have 5,000 or more followers).
Where to see who viewed a video
With the setting on, open one of your posts from the last 7 days and tap the views or activity area at the bottom of the video. Eligible viewers appear in a list. If it says viewer history isn't available, the post is too old or the setting is off.
What TikTok analytics tell you instead
TikTok analytics tell you how many people watched and how they engaged, but none of it identifies individuals. For anything beyond the post view history list, you're working with aggregate data. In the app, open a video and tap the views or analytics area, or go to TikTok Studio from your profile menu. Analytics include total views, likes, comments, shares, saves, average watch time, the share of viewers who watched to the end, traffic sources (For You feed, your profile, search, sounds) and, for your follower base, details like gender, age range and top locations.
That's by design. TikTok is built around the For You feed, which shows your video to strangers who never follow you. Revealing every one of those viewers would make people far less willing to browse.
Can people see if you viewed their TikTok?
Usually not for a regular video, but yes for stories, likes and comments. It depends on what you viewed and what you did:
| What you did | Can they see it was you? |
|---|---|
| Watched a regular video | Only if you follow them, both of you have post view history on, and the post is under 7 days old |
| Liked or commented on a video | Yes, and it also counts as a view in their post view history |
| Watched a story | Yes, always, even if your account is private or profile view history is off |
| Visited their profile | Only if both of you have profile view history on (see how profile views work) |
| Watched while logged out | No, there's no account to show |
So for a normal video, a quiet view is usually invisible. Stories and profile visits are where people most often get caught looking.
How to watch TikToks without showing up
To stay out of viewer lists, turn off post and profile view history, or watch while logged out with a tool that never signs in. Your options:
- Turn off post view history using the steps above. Remember that likes and comments still count.
- Turn off profile view history so your profile visits aren't recorded. Here's how to turn off profile views on TikTok.
- Watch stories without an account. There's no in-app setting that hides you from a story's viewer list. The TikTok story viewer on Tikvue plays public stories without logging in, so you never appear.
- Use a logged-out view. Tikvue's anonymous TikTok viewer shows a public profile's videos, reposts and stories with no TikTok account involved.
These options only work for public content. Private accounts show their posts to approved followers only, and no legitimate tool can get around that. More on that in can you view a private TikTok account.
Privacy tips for creators
- Treat post view history as a sample, not a census. Most of your viewers come from the For You feed and will never appear in it.
- Turning the feature on also exposes your own viewing to people you follow. If that matters to you, leave it off and rely on analytics.
- Be skeptical of apps that claim to reveal all your viewers. TikTok doesn't provide that data to anyone, and login-harvesting scams commonly use this promise as bait.
- If you want to control who sees your videos in the first place, set your account to private or adjust who can view each post when you publish it.
