How to Turn Off Profile Views on TikTok, Step by Step

Updated · Tikvue Guides

Short answer

To turn off profile views on TikTok, go to Profile > Menu (☰) > Settings and privacy > Privacy > Profile views, then switch off Profile view history. Once it's off, you won't appear when you visit other people's profiles, and you won't be able to see who visits yours.

How to turn off profile views on TikTok

To turn off profile views on TikTok, switch off Profile view history, which you can reach from Settings and privacy, your profile views list or your inbox. It controls two things at once: whether you can see who visited your profile, and whether others can see that you visited theirs. Switching it off hides you from other people's lists right away. The steps are the same on iPhone and Android, though the exact wording can vary slightly between app versions.

Method 1: From Settings and privacy

Go to Profile > Menu (☰) > Settings and privacy > Privacy > Profile views and turn the toggle off:

  1. Open the TikTok app and tap Profile in the bottom-right corner.
  2. Tap the Menu button (three lines, ☰) in the top-right corner.
  3. Tap Settings and privacy.
  4. Tap Privacy.
  5. Scroll down and tap Profile views.
  6. Turn off the Profile view history toggle.

Method 2: From your profile views list

Open the profile views screen from your profile and switch the feature off in its settings:

  1. Go to your Profile.
  2. Tap the profile views icon near the top of the screen.
  3. Tap the Settings (gear) icon on the profile views screen.
  4. Turn off Profile view history.

Method 3: From your inbox

If TikTok has sent you a profile views activity, open Inbox, tap Activities, open the profile views entry and use the settings button there to switch the feature off.

On a computer, the TikTok website doesn't always offer this toggle. Change it in the mobile app; because the setting belongs to your account, it applies everywhere you're logged in.

How to turn on profile viewing on TikTok

Turning it back on uses the same path: Profile > Menu (☰) > Settings and privacy > Privacy > Profile views, then switch Profile view history on. You can also tap the profile views icon on your profile, and TikTok will prompt you to enable it.

After you turn it on, you'll see accounts that visited your profile in the past 30 days, but only those who also have the feature on. Visits from people with it off are never shown.

Can't find the setting?

If the option is missing, your account may not meet TikTok's age or follower limits, or your app may need an update. Profile view history isn't available to everyone, so check these:

  • Age. TikTok limits the feature to users 16 and older.
  • Follower count. It's only available to accounts with fewer than 5,000 followers. Bigger accounts don't get the option.
  • App version. Update TikTok from the App Store or Google Play. Older versions may place the setting elsewhere or not show it.
  • Region and rollout. TikTok sometimes tests features in some countries first, so the menu can differ from what you see in screenshots online.

How do profile views work on TikTok?

Profile view history is a mutual, opt-in feature. When someone opens your profile, TikTok records the visit, but it only shows it to you when both of you have the feature turned on. The list covers the last 30 days. Here's how the four possible combinations play out:

Your settingTheir settingResult
OnOnYou see each other's visits
OnOffNeither of you sees the other's visits
OffOnNeither of you sees the other's visits
OffOffNo visits are shown

A profile view only counts when someone opens your profile page while logged in. Watching your videos in the For You feed doesn't count, and neither does a visit from someone browsing without an account. For the full picture, read does TikTok show who viewed your profile.

What happens if I turn off profile views on TikTok?

If you turn off profile views, you stop appearing in other people's profile view lists and lose your own list of visitors; nothing else about your account changes. In detail:

  • You stop appearing in other people's profile view lists when you visit their profiles.
  • You lose your own list of visitors. The trade-off is built in, so you can't hide yourself and still see who visits you.
  • Earlier visits may linger. If you visited a profile while the feature was on, that visit can stay in the other person's list for up to 30 days. There's no option to delete a single visit.
  • Nothing else changes. Your followers, videos, reach and other privacy settings stay the same.

One thing it doesn't cover: stories. When you watch someone's story while logged in, you always show up in their story viewer list, whatever your profile view setting is. We explain why in can you see who viewed your TikTok story.

How to view TikTok profiles anonymously without turning off profile views

To stay hidden on certain profiles while keeping the feature on, look at them without logging in. Turning off profile view history works, but it means giving up your own visitor list. The Tikvue anonymous TikTok viewer shows a public account's videos, reposts and active stories in your browser. It never uses your TikTok account, so the visit can't show up in their profile views or story viewer list.

It works for public accounts only; private accounts keep their posts limited to approved followers. If you mostly want to watch someone's stories, the TikTok story viewer goes straight to them, and the repost viewer shows what they've reposted.

Extra privacy settings worth checking

While you're in Settings and privacy > Privacy, a few other options are worth a quick look:

  • Private account. Limits your videos and stories to followers you approve.
  • Suggest your account to others. Controls whether TikTok recommends you to contacts and people with mutual connections.
  • Activity status. Controls whether friends can see when you're active.
  • Blocked accounts. Blocking someone stops them from viewing your profile and content.

Setting names and locations can change as TikTok updates the app, so if something is missing, check the latest instructions in TikTok's in-app Help Center under Settings and privacy.

Frequently asked questions

Is profile view history on by default?

No. When TikTok introduced the feature, it was opt-in and off by default. Check your own setting anyway, since you may have turned it on at some point to see your visitors.

Does turning off profile views delete my past visits?

Not immediately. Visits you made while the feature was on can stay in other people's lists until they are older than 30 days. Turning it off stops new visits from being recorded.

Does the setting sync between my phone and computer?

Yes. The setting belongs to your account, so changing it in the app applies wherever you are logged in. The mobile app is the easiest place to change it.

Will turning off profile views hurt my reach or followers?

No, there's no indication that it does. Profile view history is a privacy setting and doesn't affect your follower count, your ability to post or how your videos are recommended.

Can I turn off profile views for just one person?

No. The setting is all or nothing. To look at one profile without appearing, use an anonymous viewer while logged out instead.
