How to Download TikTok Videos on iPhone, Android and PC
Updated · Tikvue Guides
Short answer
There are two ways to download TikTok videos: TikTok's built-in Save video option, or a downloader site that saves the original file from a link. Which one you want depends on whether you mind the watermark and whether the creator allows downloads. Here is how each method works on every device, plus how to save sounds as MP3 and download photo posts.
Method 1: Save a video with TikTok's built-in button
Tap Share, then Save video, and TikTok saves a watermarked copy to your phone. It's the quickest option and works the same way on iPhone and Android:
- Open the video you want to keep.
- Tap the Share arrow on the right side (or press and hold on the video).
- Tap Save video. TikTok processes the clip and saves it to your Photos app or gallery.
Two catches come with this method:
- The watermark. TikTok stamps its logo and the creator's username on the saved file, and it may add a short end card. That's fine for sending to a friend, less so if you want a clean clip.
- Creators can turn downloads off. In TikTok's privacy settings (under Settings and privacy > Privacy > Downloads at the time of writing) any creator can disable downloads. Downloads are also off for private accounts, and TikTok doesn't allow them at all on videos from users under 16. If Save video is missing or grayed out, that's why.
Method 2: How to download TikTok videos without a watermark
Copy the video's link and paste it into a downloader such as the Tikvue TikTok video downloader. It fetches the video file TikTok serves to its player, before the watermark is added, and the whole thing takes a few seconds:
- In TikTok, tap Share and then Copy link. On a computer, copy the URL from the address bar.
- Open Tikvue in any browser and paste the link into the box.
- Tap Download. You get an MP4 file with no watermark, in the best quality TikTok serves.
You don't need a TikTok account, an app or a sign-up, and because you're never logged in, the download isn't tied to you. It only works for public videos, though.
How to download TikTok videos on iPhone
Paste the video link into Tikvue in Safari and the MP4 saves to the Files app, from where you can move it to Photos. Since iOS 13, Safari has had a built-in download manager, so you don't need a shortcut or a third-party app.
- In the TikTok app, tap Share > Copy link on the video.
- Open Safari, go to Tikvue and paste the link.
- Tap Download. If Safari asks whether you want to download the file, tap Download again.
- Open the Files app and go to Downloads (On My iPhone or iCloud Drive, depending on your Safari settings).
- To move the video into Photos, open it, tap the Share button and choose Save Video.
Chrome and other browsers on iPhone work too, but they save to their own folder in Files, so the Safari route is the simplest.
How to download TikTok videos on Android
Paste the video link into Tikvue in any browser and the MP4 lands in your Downloads folder:
- Copy the video link from TikTok (Share > Copy link).
- Open Chrome (or any browser), go to Tikvue and paste the link.
- Tap Download. The MP4 lands in your Downloads folder.
Most gallery apps pick up the file automatically. In Google Photos it may appear under Library > Download rather than in your main photo stream.
How to download TikTok videos on PC or Mac
Copy the video URL from tiktok.com and paste it into Tikvue in your browser to get a clean MP4. You can also right-click some videos on tiktok.com and pick Download video, but like the app, that copy has the watermark and only appears when the creator allows downloads. For a clean file:
- Open the video on tiktok.com and copy the URL from the address bar.
- Paste it into Tikvue in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.
- Click Download. The MP4 goes to your browser's Downloads folder.
You don't have to install anything. If you only want to watch rather than save, you can also watch TikTok without the app right in your browser.
How to download TikTok sounds as MP3
Paste the link of any public video that uses the sound into the TikTok to MP3 converter, and Tikvue extracts the audio track as an MP3 you can play anywhere or set as a ringtone. TikTok itself doesn't let you download sounds on their own: in the app you can only add a sound to your Favorites or tap Use this sound to make your own video with it.
The MP3 is the audio exactly as it plays in that video. If the creator talked over a song, their voice is in the file too, so pick a video where the sound plays cleanly.
How to download TikTok photo posts and slideshows
Paste the post link into the TikTok photo downloader and you can save every image in the slideshow individually, at full resolution. Photo posts (the swipeable carousels with music) aren't videos, so a video downloader isn't the right tool.
What you can and can't download
Tikvue downloads public videos, sounds, photo posts and public stories; videos from private accounts can't be downloaded anywhere.
| Content | TikTok app | Tikvue |
|---|---|---|
| Public video | Yes, with watermark, if downloads are allowed | Yes, MP4 without watermark |
| Sound / music | No (Favorites only) | Yes, as MP3 |
| Photo post / slideshow | Depends on the post and creator settings | Yes, each image |
| Stories | Your own only | Yes, public stories with the story downloader |
| Private account videos | No | No |
Private videos are off limits everywhere, and any site that says otherwise is not being honest. Our guide on viewing private TikTok accounts explains why.
Troubleshooting
- "Video not found": the video may have been deleted, made private or restricted in some regions. Check that the link opens in a browser.
- Short links: links like vm.tiktok.com/... work fine. Paste them exactly as copied, without extra text from the share message.
- Nothing happens on iPhone: check Settings > Apps > Safari > Downloads to see where files are saved (the exact menu may differ by iOS version), and make sure you have free storage.
Can you repost a downloaded TikTok?
Only with the creator's permission: keep downloads for personal use, such as watching offline, saving a recipe or tutorial, or keeping a memory. A downloaded TikTok is still someone else's work. If you want to repost or remix a clip, ask the creator first and credit them. Uploading someone's video as your own can get your account flagged for copyright infringement.
